Civic Officer

Based at the Town Hall, you will provide assistance with the operation and supervision of the building, providing a comprehensive service to all Councillors, Council Officers and customers visiting Rotherham Town Hall.

You will be expected to ensure the Mayor of Rotherham receives precedence as First Citizens of the Borough undertaking chauffeuring duties for the Mayor plus assisting and guiding the Mayor during mayoral engagements and events as required, to ensure they undertake their civic duties in a professional manner.

It is essential that you possess an understanding and experience of dealing efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of people face to face and by telephone, hold a valid driving licence and passport and have a good knowledge of the Rotherham area and outlying districts.

The hours of work are variable and will include unsociable hours, which will require flexible working patterns to meet the needs of the service including evenings and weekends when required and occasionally at short notice.

For an informal discussion please contact, Hayley Unwin, Member and Civic Support Team Leader on (01709 822721).

In order to support the Council’s requirement to save a further GBP 41million from its budget, by collective agreement, from 1st April 2017 to 31st March 2020 there is a temporary 1.15% pay reduction from the advertised substantive salary quoted, which will be spread out by means of a weekly/monthly deduction (dependent on pay frequency) from each pay period over the full financial year. In recognition of implementing this temporary measure three additional day’s leave (pro rata for part time workers and new starters in year) will be granted.

Appointment will be subject to the Council obtaining a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service. Further information about the disclosure scheme can be found at www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check
