Rotherham’s MCVC Achieves Prestigious Gold Award from Armed Forces Covenant

The MCVC (Military Community Veterans Centre), based in Rotherham, is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Gold Award as part of the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme — the highest honour available to organisations that go above and beyond in support of the Armed Forces community.

The Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold Awards is the highest badge of honour for organisations which have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and demonstrated outstanding support for those who serve and have served.

The ERS Gold Awards recognise employers who actively support the Armed Forces community in their workplace and also encourage others to follow their lead. The award scheme, which attracts entries from companies in every part of the country and in the private, public and charity sectors, has seen a rapid increase in participation since it launched in 2014.

Having previously achieved Bronze and Silver status, and having signed the Covenant in 2019, this latest recognition marks a significant milestone for the organisation.

The award announced today, Monday 21st July, recognising MCVC’s long-standing commitment to veterans, reservists, and their families across South Yorkshire. We are also proud to say we believe we are the only charity across Yorkshire and the Humber to receive both the Gold Award, and the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

“This Gold Award is not just a badge – it’s recognition of the work we do every day to support veterans,” said Major (retd) Adie Hunt KVRM DL. “We’ve built more than a service – we’ve built a military family. And whether it’s employment, wellbeing or a simple chat over a brew, we’ll always be here for our Armed Forces community.”

MCVC offers weekly drop-ins, regular activities, and signposting to professional services. But what makes it truly unique is the atmosphere of camaraderie and understanding – support delivered in a way that only fellow service personnel can.

As part of its ongoing commitments under the Armed Forces Covenant, MCVC supports veterans through direct employment, mental health signposting, and peer-led engagement. The organisation is also developing a South Yorkshire-wide project to help veterans access the right support at the right time and stay informed about local events and services.

This Gold Award recognises not just past efforts, but MCVC’s ongoing mission to serve those who have served.
