Help needed in finding WW2 Veterans
Dear Drop-In leaders
I am writing to all Drop-Ins that ASDIC is aware of, including its member organisations, following an approach from The Not Forgotten Association charity (www.thenotforgotten.org). This organisation is looking at how they could, in part, compensate our WW2 generation for missing out on their VE & VJ Day celebrations.
Firstly, on 20th July they started their ‘Those Not Forgotten Years’ concert tour which is travelling England, Scotland and Wales delivering foot tapping music, fun and dance to care homes with a focus on our WW2 veterans who have had their VE & VJ Day celebrations stolen from them. The concerts have music from the 30’s to the 60’s and will be performed outside the home – always socially distanced. They’re even providing a sumptuous tea to help make it more of a party. The first week (last week) was a tremendous success and they look forward to going to the NW next week.
The second idea is to track down as many WW2 veterans as possible to send them a little goody box to acknowledge their service and the great generation they represent. And it is here that we are asking for help. We need to know of any WW2 veterans that are known by our Drop-Ins to see what The Not Forgotten Association might be able to do for them.
Please could I ask you to let us know of any such veterans that you know of in or around your community so that I can pass this information on? We do not need to fully identify anyone at this stage, or pass on personal details, just get a feel for how many there may be and where. Should this idea then take shape we will liaise directly with you to make detailed arrangements.
I, and The Not Forgotten Association, would be hugely grateful if you could forward your information to me at tracy.bryant@asdic.org.uk
With thanks in advance for contributing to this heart warming initiative,
