Good afternoon,
We have had several reports within South Yorkshire of telephone calls being received claiming to be from HMRC. Criminals are experts at impersonating people and organisations. HMRC will never contact you and ask you for bank details, PIN’s or passwords. If you are unsure, HANG UP and contact HMRC on a trusted number to verify the authenticity. The calls use a variety of phone numbers. To help HMRC investigations you should report full details of the scam by email to: phishing@hmrc.gov.uk, including the: date of the call Always: Stop: Take a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information, it could keep you safe. Challenge: Could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you. Protect: Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve fallen for a scam and report it to Action Fraud. If you think you have been a victim of fraud, please report it to Action Fraud at https://www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040. If you are deaf or hard of hearing you can contact them on textphone 0300 123 2050. Share this information with family and friends, protect yourself and others. |
