This Sunday – a day to be thankful

This Sunday, 4th July is national Thank You Day – a chance for all of us to show our gratitude to the people, businesses and organisations who have supported us throughout the pandemic.

Throughout the day we will be sharing message of thanks from local residents and community leaders to others in the community on our Twitter and Facebookpages and we’re encouraging you to do the same!

If someone has made a big difference to your life over the last 18 months, join in and post your own thank you messages on your social media, using the hashtags #ThankYouRotherham and #ThankYouDay

We will also be leading the borough to raise a glass or a mug and say cheers to our volunteers at 5pm on Sunday 4 July.

So why not join the celebrations?

View a message of thanks from Councillor Chris Read, Leader of Rotherham Council here and find out more about how you can take part and spread the word about Thank You Day by visiting the Thank You Day website.

Keep Rotherham Moving

Covid infection rate continues to rise in Rotherham

The rate of cases of COVID in Rotherham is now rising very quickly and is currently at 104.4 per 100,000 – with 277 new cases reported in the last 7 days alone – significantly more than the 157 cases last week.

Cases are widespread across the borough and are mainly the Delta variant, which is more transmissible.

This is a stark reminder that the virus is still here and that the best way of reducing the spread is to use the measure we’re all familiar with:

  • social distance from other people as much as you can
  • meet outside whenever possible
  • if you are meeting indoors ensure there is good ventilation
  • wear a mask when required indoors and outdoors in busy areas
  • wash your hands regularly

As well as these key measures, to prevent the continued rise in cases, risk of long covid and the spread of cases into older age groups where harm is more likely, it is really important all adults take up their offer of the vaccine and complete both doses.

Grab a Jab 4th July

Grab a jab is back this Sunday

After the success of Rotherham’s first walk-up vaccination sessions last weekend, grab a jab returns again this Sunday, 4th July at Rotherham Leisure Complex (8.30am to 12.30pm).

There’s no need to book, just turn up to get your first dose of the Pfizer vaccine if you’re aged 18 or over and live in the Rotherham borough. If you’re coming down, remember:

  • bring proof of age ID
  • be ready to queue during busy periods
  • have something to eat and drink before you come along

If you’d rather book

Over 44 million people in the UK have had their first dose, with 33 million of those receiving their second dose.

People who have had both doses of their vaccine are less likely to become dangerously ill from COVID-19.

If you are 18 years old or over and not had your first dose and are registered at a Rotherham GP practice, we are strongly advising you to book your COVID-19 vaccine.

Call the vaccine booking service on 0300 3035258 (excluding those registered at Swallownest, Thurcroft, Dinnington and Kiveton Park) to get your appointment at a Rotherham site.

The Rotherham booking line is open:

  • Monday to Friday – 9am to 8pm
  • Saturday and Sunday – 9am to 5pm

For those registered at Swallownest, Thurcroft,  Dinnington or Kiveton Park surgeries, please send your full name, date of birth, GP practice, contact number and postcode to the secure email address roccg.rvspcn.covidqueries@nhs.net. Someone will contact you to arrange an appointment.

All first dose appointments in Rotherham over the coming weeks will the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Latest from Rotherham Hospital

Rotherham hospital at night

There has been a slight increase in the number of patients being treated for COVID in Rotherham Hospital, with three inpatients recorded on Wednesday morning, with none in critical care.

It's coming home

Football’s coming home – make sure Covid isn’t

Many football fans across the borough have been enjoying the EUROs over the past few weeks, either at home, with friends or at the pub.

With England’s quarter-final taking place this Saturday, it is important that everyone is careful if they are watching the game with others.

Remember, to help stop the spread of COVID-19, you should keep your house well ventilated when you have guests over by opening windows and doors, and by wiping down surfaces regularly. You must not meet with more than six people or two households indoors.

If you do go out to the pub, stick to social distancing and keep to your group of six or two households to stop the spread of the virus.

Please continue to follow social distancing guidance, wash your hands regularly, and wear a face covering inside shops and other indoor space, on public transport, and if you’re visiting the GP, pharmacy or hospital.

Even if you have had both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, you should still follow social distancing guidance. The vaccine will protect you from the virus, but you could still carry the virus which could spread to someone sill waiting for their first or second dose of the vaccine.

Don’t get caught offside!

Exams are not the only test for young people

It may be exam time, but parents are being reminded that English and Maths are not the only tests their children should be taking.

If your child is in Year 11 or Year 13 and they are no longer attending school, please remember to inform the school if they test positive for COVID-19. This helps us keep track of the number of cases occurring in young people and also keeps the school up to date just in case there are other outbreaks.

School children can access testing even if they are not attending school. You can still get Lateral Flow Tests for them from the local test sites, pharmacies, your local library, and via the LFT Direct service.
