COVID-19 infection rate continues to climb in Rotherham

The infection rate in Rotherham remains high since restrictions eased. It currently stands at 410 per 100,000 which is well above the national average of 308 per 100,000. The rate is still rising.

The area of most concern is within the over 60s age group. Rates of cases in the over 60s is at 258 per 100,000, the second highest rate in the country. We are also seeing a continued rise in hospital admissions with more than 60 patients currently in Rotherham hospital with COVID-19.

We are seeing persistent widespread transmission across the whole borough. Cases are occurring across all age ranges and we are seeing most transmission within the community, from people meeting with friends and family, and going out to the shops, entertainment venues, and eateries. This is why it is important that you continue to follow social distancing guidance and also wear a face covering while you are in indoor public spaces. Washing your hands regularly or using hand sanitiser will also help stop the rate of transmission.

Whilst double vaccination has been successful in reducing severity of symptoms for the majority, it is still possible to become infected and transmit the infection to others even if you are not experiencing symptoms. Those who have not had both doses of their vaccine should book and appointment or attend a Grab a Jab session as soon as they can.

New Messages July 19

Plan ahead for the late August bank holiday

The number of positive cases in Rotherham continues to be above the National Average, so if you have plans for the Bank Holiday on Monday 30 August, make sure you plan ahead to keep your family safe from COVID-19.

Some of you may be making the most of the last few weeks of the summer holidays by going on holiday either in the UK or abroad, but remember, COVID’s not gone yet.

Make sure you keep safe by continuing to follow social distancing and wearing a face mask in indoor public spaces – while it is no longer a legal requirement for you to wear a face covering indoors, these measures really do help stop the spread of the virus.

Also, get tested regularly, especially if you are going out shopping, visiting family and friends, or going out for a meal. By getting tested you’re helping to stop the spread of the virus and it also gives you that reassurance that you won’t be passing it on to other people.

If you start with symptoms, even if they are really mild, get a PCR test to make sure. Stay at home until you get your results back and if you do test positive, you must self-isolate for 10 days at home even if you have been double vaccinated.

Help shape the future of Our Rotherham, Our Borough – the Rotherham Council plan 2022-24

Our Rotherham Our Borough

Rotherham Council is preparing a new Council Plan which will guide its priorities for the coming years to 2024. As part of this people across the borough will have the chance to put across their views on what they think are the biggest questions facing our communities.

Throughout the summer residents are being urged to get involved with the ‘Our Rotherham, Our Borough’ consultation.

The coronavirus pandemic has created new challenges for people and new issues have developed while others may have altered over the last 16 months.

The consultation period closes on Sunday 19 September.

Garden Waste Service will resume on Monday

The Garden Waste collection service will resume on Monday 23 August 2021. If you have subscribed to the service, please put out your garden waste bin on your next scheduled collection date.

Our team will be operating with minimal staff, and the volume of garden waste to be collected will be greater than usual to start with so lorries will need to go to be emptied more often. This means it is possible that some collection rounds may be delayed, however, we will make extra rounds on subsequent days, including over weekends, to ensure all brown bins are collected.

In the event that your collection is delayed, we are asking you to do the following:

  • Leave your bin out if it is not collected that day, so it’s ready for our crews to collect.
  • Only report your garden waste collection as missed if it is two or more working days late.
  • Help the crews complete the rounds as fast as possible, for example by ensuring parked cars are not preventing access for the lorries.

Please be aware that only waste that is in your garden waste bin will be collected. If you have excess garden waste, you can take this to your Household Waste Recycle Centre. Further information is available on the Council’s website.

We would like to thank everyone for their patience and would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension of this service.

Our waste teams have been working hard to get this service back up and running in challenging circumstances, so please be kind if you see any of the team out on their rounds.

Please pass on the message to your friends, family and neighbours – we have contacted subscribers directly but they may have missed it!
