Colourful thank you to NHS outside Rotherham Hospital
Health workers tackling the spread of the coronavirus are now being welcomed to work with an extra colourful display of Rotherham’s appreciation for all they are doing to keep us safe.
Road markings bearing the words “Thank You NHS” have been painted onto the tarmac outside the Rotherham Hospital by our Highways team and contractors, WJ North Ltd
Council chief executive Sharon Kemp said: “To show our appreciation for our brilliant NHS workers, our highways team and our contractors were out on Tuesday this week, painting special messages on the approach to the hospital.
“This is just another way to express our thanks to the health workers while they are dealing with the continuing coronavirus pandemic.”
No excuses for fly tipping
People who ruin the environment for everyone by selfishly fly tipping waste will continue to face fines and prosection, the Council is warning.
Although we have seen a decrease in reported fly tipping since Household Waste Recycling were closed, we are conscious that fewer people are out and about to make reports, so this not be the actual case.
The Council reluctantly took to the decision to close its Household Waste and Recycling Centres due to concerns about people making unnecessary car journeys, traffic congestion and social distancing.
But this is not an excuse for dumping your waste and expecting taxpayers to pay to clear up after you.

Coronavirus tests now available to more people
The Government has announced that Covid-19 tests are to be provided to more groups of people, if they are displaying symptoms.
Extra capacity has been created, so tests are now being offered to anyone who has to leave their home to work, all people aged over 65 and anyone in their households who are symptomatic.
So, the full list of people now entitled to tests is:
- all essential workers including NHS and social care workers with symptoms (see the full list of essential workers)
- anyone over 65 with symptoms
- anyone with symptoms whose work cannot be done from home (for example, construction workers, shop workers, emergency plumbers and delivery drivers)
- anyone who has symptoms of coronavirus and lives with any of those identified above
- social care workers and residents in care homes (with or without symptoms) both to investigate outbreaks and, following successful pilots, as part of a rolling programme to test all care homes
- NHS workers and patients without symptoms, in line with NHS England guidance

Rotherham Director of Public Health’s weekly mesage
Rotherham’s Director of Public Health, Teressa Roche has thanked local residents for continuing to observe coronavirus restrictions in her weekly message.
She said: “We need to keep this up and keep acting and behaving as if we have the virus. Let’s not give the virus opportunities to spread by reducing our efforts now.”
She also covers the topics of safe religious worship, working from home and looking after mental health, including links to a variety of organisations that can provide support and guidance.

First phase of College Road roundabout work completed
Essential work has now been completed on the A630 College Road Roundabout which is a critical access point to the Town Centre and provides an important link across the borough.
The works to widen the carriageway have been completed ahead of schedule, however the nationwide reduction in construction work during the coronavirus pandemic has meant a second phase of related works will need to be completed at a later date.
The remaining works, which includes new traffic light signals and landscaping to improve the appearance of the site, will be completed when it is safe to do so.
