The MCVC are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Jim Oakes as the new MCVC Outreach Project Manager for South Yorkshire. Jim is a retired firefighter from South Yorkshire who lives in the Doncaster area. He is a keen piper and a leading figure in the Sheffield Pipe Band.
This new post has been funded by a generous grant from the MoD Covenant Fund and is to extend the now well established Rotherham MCVC outreach activity across the region of South Yorkshire. This initiative has been led by RMBC with close cooperation with the councils of Sheffield, Doncaster and Barnsley. This two year project and will also be supported by the procurement of an purpose built vehicle which will tow the already busy MCVC trailer. It is hoped that with additional resources at the disposal of the project manager we will be able to reach out to veterans and their families across the whole of South Yorkshsire providing a much needed signposting service to those who need some support after leaving service life.
Our President, Maj Adie Hunt said “I am sure it will not take long for Jim to find his feet and get the project into action”. Col Mac McPherson who is the chairman of the trustee board said ” There is significant detailed work involved to set this project up and Jim will have a busy few weeks and months ahead. I am sure Jim will need the support of some expert advisors from across the region to help him get this important service to the towns and parishes throughout the region”.
