The MCVC are pleased to have appointed Mr Jim Oakes to lead the ‘Reducing reoffending – Improving Lives’ project for the MCVC.
The MCVC are extremely grateful to The Worshipful Company of Weavers who have been generous in providing a grant in aid of this project. The project is to support the mentoring of the Veteran’s in Custody (ViC’s) group in HMP Marshgate. In addition it will provide support continuity for those leaving custody and settling back into local communities in and around Rotherham. It is anticipated that Jim will enhance the delivery of this support which will benefit individuals and communities by developing links with already established partners, in particular, Catch 22, Project NOVA, RBL, SSAFA and the several additional local support groups who can support those just managing to avoid crisis.
Many MCVC members will know Jim as one of the pipers at last year’s summer ball; if you don’t please take the opportunity to say hello and make him welcome. He will be calling in to the drop-in sessions in the next few weeks. Jim will be looking for mentors to help him in his role, and if you think you have a few spare hours a week and would like to help veterans get back on their feet please get in touch.
