As lockdown restrictions begin to ease we know that some Rotherham Community Hub members may be changing the support they offer to the community.
We’d like to thank you for the support and kindness you have provided to others during the virus outbreak. Rotherham Community Hub and the Rotherham Heroes programme will keep running for the time being, as those who must self-isolate or are vulnerable will still need support.
Volunteering and supporting your community can be extremely rewarding, and we’d love to keep in contact with you as we continue to receive requests for support. However, we fully appreciate that if your circumstances have changed and you wish to be taken off the Rotherham Community Hub database please let us know by emailing corporate.comms@rotherham.gov.uk
Thank you again for your support (even if you never got called upon!). We really do appreciate all that you have done.
Many of you are supporting people who are shielding or protecting people who are clinically extremely vulnerable to COVID-19.
The government has updated its guidance for people who are shielding taking into account that coronavirus COVID-19 infection rates have decreased significantly over the last few weeks. This guidance remains advisory.
People who are shielding remain vulnerable and should continue to take precautions but may now choose to leave their home, as long as they are able to maintain strict social distancing. If you choose to spend time outdoors, you may do so with members of your own household. If you live alone, you can spend time outdoors with one person from another household. Ideally, this should be the same person each time.
If you do go out, you should take extra care to minimise contact with others by keeping 2 metres apart. This guidance will be kept under regular review.
As high streets across the borough begin to open their doors as restrictions on non-essentials shops are eased, we’re appealing for volunteers who may be interested in supporting our town as a volunteer ambassador
Acting as a host, ambassadors will provide the following service:
- Welcoming people back to the town
- Letting people know which facilities are open
- Acting as a general point of information
- Reminding people of what guidance and restrictions for social distancing are in place
- Working with shops/businesses to manage queues (if required)
Please note, this is a hosting and signposting role. It does not require you to police people’s behaviour.
Morning and afternoon shifts are available, from Monday to Saturday. Ambassadors will operate in socially distanced pairs and there will be a minimum of four volunteers per shift with a crossover at lunchtime.
Ambassadors will receive advice and guidance on the role beforehand and there’ll be an information point within the town centre manned by council staff to support too. You even get a casual ‘Rotherham Heroes’ uniform.
If anyone in your network would like to become a Rotherham Hero Town Centre Ambassador please contact Simeon Leach at simeon.leach@rotherham.gov.uk by Friday 3rd July.
If you’re using this time tidy your inbox and would like to unsubscribe from this newsletter, whilst remaining on our list of volunteers, you can use the ‘Unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of each email at any time.
If your circumstances have changed and you are no longer able to volunteer, please let us know at corporate.comms@rotherham.gov.uk and we will update our records.
